Hiden Universe IMAX 3D film: Thanks Yelp

Last night I got to attend a preview screening of the new Australian-produced IMAX 3D film Hidden Universe. I got to do this because Yelp had passes available and was kind enough to give me two.

Our Sun

Our Sun

The 45-minute film was interesting and engaging. It was not pitched as hard science: they rightly understand that most people are not experts in astronomy. But they manage to show interesting facts about the VLT and ALMA telescopes run by the ESO in Chile, about how nebulae are birthplaces for stars, and how microwaves give us a different picture of deep space than optical light does.

Most importantly Hidden Universe lets us hear from people who are excited about scientific exploration. And it looks beautiful at the same time.
