Film overload at 11,000 metres

Flying from Sydney, Australia to Halifax, Canada – and back – recently gave me lots of opportunities to watch films. Here are the stunning cinematic masterpieces I recall seeing.

  • The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader. Pretty weak fantasy. Good for kids.
  • Gulliver’s Travels. Lame and cynical.
  • Win Win. Nice little drama/comedy/character study/slice of life.
  • The Dilemma. Better than average romcom/drama, but not much.
  • Cedar Rapids. Typical (which is to say, not good) comedy.
  • Hall Pass. Dreck.
  • Rango. Superb story, acting and animation.
  • The Adjustment Bureau. Started strong but became standard “love conquers all” story.
  • Limitless. Not bad thriller, but increasingly hokey.
  • Red Riding Hood. Teen shit.
  • True Grit. Okay, this was a rewatch of a great film.
  • Sucker Punch. Style is great, but it’s the only thing going for it.
  • Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Okay, another rewatch of a pretty good film.
  • Arthur. Not as bad as I feared, though that could be the jetlag. Reasonably funny and touching.
  • Dinner For Shmucks. Awful, especially compared to the French original.

Hey Tim, I just discovered your blog, now its on my Bookmarks Toolbar!

Some more films I would recommend:

    – Outsourced (great laugh but also great learning lesson for us outsourcers

    – Dinner For Shmucks – Is this “Bienvenue Chez Les Schti” ? If not , this one is great!
It was great in German, must be 10 times better in Franch (which I don´t understand)

    – The “sequel” to the Schti just came out here, it is called “Nichts zu verzollen” ,
original title: “Rien à Déclarer”. I haven´t seen it yet, but sure am planning to.

As you might guess, my wife and I are total film fans. During our university days in Istanbul,
we used to go to 4 films one after the other (and yes, we did watch the films !!)
