New library at Ealing Broadway

After being closed for a £2m renovation for many months the main Ealing library branch, in the Ealing Broadway mall, is now open. It’s looking really cool. It’s big, bright, and spacious. It’s got a large kids’ area. It even has a café now. And there are free networked PCs, if you have a library card and a PIN (though they’re only good for 15 minutes to keep people from hogging them – just enough time to look up the name of that author you were thinking of the other day). I’m blogging this from one of them now.

The book check-in/out in the neatest bit, though. Completely self-serve, with RFID scans and printed receipts and a zippy little scanning conveyor-belt return slot.

They had those little machines at university. Pretty fail-safe too, from my experience!
